I tell ya', my sister makes the cutest kids. No bias or anything.

Back in September I decided it was necessary to document all this adorableness. I used school photos as an excuse.

Besides Judah insisting on making weird faces (why do little boys think this is the most hilarious thing ever?), it was super easy to get some good shots of these photogenic kids. Now, group shots are a different story...

Fall Family Photos

I'm pretty surprised that we got any nice photos out of this shoot. On a whim, one evening when Reuben got off work early, I decided that we should take some family photos. I quickly did my hair and makeup and picked out clothes for us all.

We drove out onto Reuben's family's land and found a pretty spot. Just as the light was beginning to fade we managed to set up the tripod and grab some shots.

I'd like to do a bigger photo shoot with just Reuben and I someday, but I'll probably have to be satisfied with these until next year. Unless I can convince him to do another shoot (which doesn't sound too likely). :)

Do you like to take a family photo each year?

December Photo-a-Day 2013: Days 19 + 20

Knuckle Rings
Self Portrait
Curlz
Fake Laugh
I’m sharing more than two photos from the past couple of days. Because reasons. The first is from yesterday, the other three from today.
1| My new knuckle rings. 2| Self portrait. 3| Mah curlz. It’s a good idea to document them since I rarely have time to curl my hair these days. 4| Helen’s fake laugh. Silly-head.

R Family 2013
A few weekends ago I photographed this fun family. They were all so laid back and friendly.
We were hoping for a cloudy day for more even lighting, but the sun made for some lovely back-lit single portraits.
I really like how the group shots showcase their love for each other, but my favorites are the individual shots of the kids. I love their smiles.
Have an awesome day!
Erica

Yesterday I got to shoot this lovely lady: my little sister!
It was a gorgeous October day. We’ve been having lots of rain lately, so the lighting has been less than ideal the past few days. We finally got a sunny day, perfect capturing Katelyn’s seniors.
We might do some more photos another day, but these were so pretty I just couldn’t wait to share them with you.
Hope you have an awesome day!
Erica

Your sister is so pretty! I love her outfit and the gorgeous fall colors in the background. It’s amazing how much your love for your family shines through your photos when you do family portraits.

Senior Portraits ~ Morgan

I was a bit apprehensive when I was asked to take Morgan’s senior portraits. Guys are always harder to photograph than girls – they don’t think your ideas are very good and they do NOT want to look dumb.
To my surprise, Morgan was super easy to work with – he tried all my crazy ideas for posing without complaining. Of course it helped that Reuben was there to make us laugh.
Now I’m excited to try more portraiture. Anyone want to volunteer as a subject? :D

Portraiture is addicting, isn’t it? Next phase of the addiction is transitioning from asking for volunteers to roping your friends into it by force. ;-)

I agree – guys are harder. I’d love to hear about your posing strategies/ideas. :)

Did you take down your cooking blog? I get an error every time I try.

Sam & Amanda: Married on Friday, May 3rd, 2013.
I had the privilege of being able to capture my little sister’s wedding.
Since Reuben was the best man, I had baby duty and couldn’t capture the actual ceremony and reception. I stood in the back of the church during the ceremony and bounced Helen the whole time. She didn’t cry once and actually started cooing at the preacher. But my arms were about to fall off at the end.
Then we rushed outside, took a few pictures at the church, and headed over to a nearby park. The sun was just setting as we got there – gorgeous lighting!
It was pretty cold that evening. As you can see in the photos, there was still snow on the ground! That’s Minnesota for ya!
I wish I had photos of the reception to share – it was awesome.
It’s been so much fun to watch these two grow together. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!

Hey, Erica! I hope you don’t mind that I borrowed a few pictures for my sewing blog. :) I still love-love-love the bright “pop” of the bridesmaids’ dresses against the drab springtime trees. :)

Beautiful job, Erica. I love the idea of taking a picture with the bride wearing the grooms jacket – so sweet. :)
