Photo-a-Day: April 1-7


I have decided to challenge myself to take a photo each day in April. Here are the photos from week one:

Friday, April 2, 2010 – Amanda’s new glasses finally arrived on Friday.

Signs & Relics


Imagine my surprise when I discovered this little pansy growing in our new flower bed. I thought it would be weeks before we saw the first signs of Spring flowers.
There are still many brown & dead things in our lawn – relics of Fall and Winter. Soon we’ll be mowing the grass & planting our garden.
I have decided to give myself a little challenge. Starting today, I plan to take at least one photo each day in April. Instead of posting every single day, I’ll post a roundup of my photos every week. Wish me luck!

    Sue Anne Kirkham: Thank you! I’m flattered. ;) I did not design my blog “from scratch”. I recently found a wonderful template called Lilac Stitch (scroll to the bottom of the page). I found it to very easy to customize and would recommend it.

    I also enjoy The Dick Van Dyke show and The Andy Griffith show. :) I recently went through all of the Dick Van Dyke show on netflix. So funny.

Fix-It Friday ~ #48

This week’s Fix-It Friday photo was provided by Natalie P from And Then There Were Three.
Here is the original photo. I like the composition and the little girl is adorable; however, the exposure is a bit dull.
For my first edit, I simply boosted the contrast, corrected the color in curves, added some warmth, brightened the eyes, and sharpened the photo. I didn’t like the sharpness on the hat, so I created a layer mask and erased the sharpness in that area.
For my second edit, I gave the photo a more “retro” feel. I added some layers of colors (first orange, then purple, then brown), sharpened the photo a bit more, and finished with a light vignette.

Spring Day

Last Sunday, Dad decided to take out his little Honda motorcycle.
He gave Elinor a little ride around the lawn.

    Looks like a beautiful spring day! When we moved in the middle of February there was still several feet of snow on the ground. Eleanor is so beautiful. I just love her smile and her cute blonde hair! Some of my fondest memories were with my grandpa when I was a baby. He would drive us around on his little moped. Cherish these moments!

    WOW! It’s gorgeous Erica!
    My brother says to bite it to find out if its really silver. If it is, there will be bite marks in the ring (if you don’t want big teeth marks, bite lightly!). He said even the slightest mark means it could very well be real silver. You could also take it into a jewelers and see if they will give you their opinion. I think they’ll do it for free, but I’m not sure. As for the blue gems…aren’t sapphires blue? Otherwise, it could be sterling sliver or just sliver paint and paste gems.
    I’d say you two got a good deal anyway!

Fix-It-Friday ~ #44

My Edit: For my edit, I used Corel Paint Shop Pro. First, I cropped the photo closer, duplicated the layer, created a layer mask, and brightened the photo. The background was very bright so I erased that part of the photo using a soft black brush and merged the layers. I then turned the photo black & white and duplicated the layer. On the new layer, I ran a preset called Albumen, turned down the opacity and merged the layers. Next, I placed a texture called concrete over the photo, turned down the opacity, created a layer mask, and erased the texture on the girl with a soft black brush. I then merged the layers and placed a slight purple tinge over the photo. Lastly, I sharpened the image and made her pants, hair, and eyes especially sharp.
